About the experience

Experience Duration : 3 hrs
Detailed description:

Vietnamese food has grown rapidly in popularity over recent years due in particular to the notable health benefits of the region's dishes. Less oily than Chinese, less spicy than Thai food, and not as heavy as Indian food the cuisine has roots in broths, raw food, and gluten and additive-free cooking — The distinct freshness and simplicity of Vietnamese cuisine begs you to explore deeper into the region's delightful dishes. Covering well known dishes from the region including Pho Bo, Vietnamese Summer Rolls, you will learn to prepare and cook each dish from scratch at your own individual work station by following me with step by step instruction. At the end of the class enjoy your own cooked 2 course meal together with the other students or alternatively take your meal home with you to share with family and friends. The class includes the following: - A welcome drink and limitless refreshments during the class - All cooking equipment and ingredients SKILL LEVEL - The course is suitable for everyone from basic cooking skills upwards. SKILLS LEARNT DURING THE COURSE - Understanding Asian spices and how to combine to make spice pastes - How to balance flavours - Knife skills DIETARY REQUIREMENTS Please note this class is NOT suitable for vegans, vegetarians or people with nut & crustacean allergies During the Learn To Cook Vietnamese class we will make the following dishes: Vietnamese Summer Rolls : Learn how to make these fresh-tasting rice paper rolls packed with prawns, light vermicelli noodles, carrots, cucumber and herbs, with a sweet ginger chilli dipping sauce. Vietnamese Pho Bo : There is nothing like a heavenly bowl of Pho Bo ! I have spent many happy times watching the world go by at the side of a Vietnamese street tucking into this delightful bowl of aromatic goodness ! Learn how to master this popular street food dish and the tips and tricks to make a proper broth which is critical to the overall success of the dish.

About the host

Awed by my mother’s cooking skills, I eventually made a career choice and surrendered to the call of the kitchen. I developed my recipes and cooking tricks from my mum as well as the local roadside food stalls I grew up with, and my first-hand experiences from travelling. There is nothing more nostalgic than food, and using my knowledge to recreate memories through the science of flavour is my passion. In 2009, my partner and I packed up our things and moved from everything I knew in Indonesia to England. And that gave me the idea, of sharing my love of food with other people and so I opened up my kitchen to welcome everyone to learn to cook, in a fun and relaxing environment; and so My Exotic Kitchen was born !!!!
