Madhubani and Christmas
From traditional to contemporary, the canvas of Madhubani art encompasses gods and goddesses, trees and birds, electoral day and building a bridge or watching a plane in the sky! Similarly, the width and breadth of Madhubani reaches out to festivals and celebrations from all parts of the world. Be it a hot air balloon race, the majestic Titanic or the Mardi Gras – it can all be depicted in Madhubani. The story on the wall or canvas comes into being from the mind of the artist. It is her or his imagination that gives shape to that which is happening nearby or far away.
And that brings us to our forthcoming session – can the folk art of Madhubani be used to depict a snowman or a reindeer? But of course! The slanting lines of the ‘kachni’ style of Madhubani will take us on this amazing journey which unites continents and people. Let us draw a Christmas themed artwork – in the language of Madhubani folk art. Let us find contentment and peace as a Santa or a reindeer or a stocking full of goodies takes shape on our sheet of paper! Join us on this joyful journey.
I’m a multi-disciplinary artist, and love to engage with folk/tribal art from across the world – wiPth a special focus on India. I design and conduct experiential workshops, giving a contemporary bent to heritage Art n Craft.
