About the experience

Experience Duration : 8 hrs
Experience Summary:

London is a photographers paradise but, for me even more so away from the normal touristy spots. This is an opportunity to totally immerse yourself into 4 parts of London in one day of street photography. Whether you are new to photography or years of experience, using a phone or DSLR you will have the chance to learn about street photography from two professionals in a small group as we immerse ourselves into the city I call my second home

Detailed description:

On this afternoon and evening experience you will receive 8 hours of immersive Street Photography experience in London with 2 professional photographers with over 20 years combined experience. Immerse yourself in the worlds of Shoreditch, Covent Garden, China Town and Soho and let your imagination free with the sights, sounds and smells from the street markets, lights, reflections, vibrancy and culture. As your imagination is freed your skill levels will be elevated in this immersive class. We walk through some of the most vibrant and colourful streets of London. We will get the chance to explore many techniques from storytelling to the abstract, colour to black and white and all that we experience along the way. This exclusive event takes place within a small and relaxed group setting with a maximum of 12 people. The workshop is designed to suit all skill levels. Join us and bring this genre alive, excite the photographic palette and provide inspiration for years to come. Agenda: 1pm– Meet Brick Ln, London E1 6SB for an introduction, coffee and cake and where we can share some information about Street Photography and our hopes and expectations for the day, as well as understanding something of the area. 1.45: We will leave the café and start putting into practice techniques while getting information around the areas many points of interest. Our immersive experience of photographing the area will include: Techniques to capture the people in the area, including candid or posed. What compositions work best in this setting. Techniques to improve the chances of getting ‘that shot.’ Black and white or colour? Making the best use of light sources. Do we chase the image by moving or stay and wait for it to come to us? 4pm: Coffee / tea. As the light fades, we will break for a meal. We will decide where, depending on the groups dietary needs and wishes, but Shoreditch is not short of places to eat, or we can head to China Town. As we socialise Adrian will be able to guide us on anything we would like to know about Social Media and especially Instagram 6pm – 9pm: We will continue our immersive photographic experience but this time in the life and vibrancy of London’s China Town and Soho, two districts adjacent to each other and a short tube journey from Shoreditch. Here we will continue to use the techniques from earlier but learn how to adapt them for low light and night photography. These areas offer endless opportunities to get creative with settings, light, the abstract and more. 9pm: We will end at 9pm but for those with the energy, or after a little bit more there is a free add on to catch the Christmas Lights, to try bokeh photography, light trails and just enjoy the lights. Requirements: It would be best if you came with the following equipment: DSLR, Mirrorless Camera or Phone Fully charged battery and memory card. Appropriate clothing for potential inclement weather. For the evening you can bring a lightweight tripod if you wish but not essential.

About the host

My name is Adrian and I turned to photography as a way of addressing well being some years ago. I soon discovered my lover was not the landscapes and beaches, posed portraits and alike but being on the street amongst the vibrancy of life. I love to photograph life where it really happens taking in culture, sights, sounds, smells and history. I love to use my photographs to tell stories and to speak to my own heart and soul. For me, one of the places I return to time and again is London, to Shoreditch, the areas of Jack the Ripper, to Brick Lane, its street food and street art and of course the vibrancy and colour of China Town and Soho. I am getting excited just writing about the chance to share this with you.

Places we'll visit

Oh there is so much to take in, where do I start: Well perhaps where we begin on Brick Lane in Shoreditch where we spend the first couple of hours. Here the photo opportunities are endless with Street Art, street food markets (you are free to buy and eat as we stroll), artists at work, characters at every turn. there are the alleyways full of culture and history and of course the stories of Jack the Ripper. After a break we will take the tube to Covent Garden and the iconic area around the market. There may even be Christmas Lights up. From here we walk into China Town and explore the streets and alleyways, photographing and learning as we go. The across Shaftesbury Avenue and into Soho where the colours, reflections and neon lights afford a photo paradise especially after some rain. Still want more, well join us for a free extension as we stroll to Oxford Street to check out any festive lights that are up!

Special Considerations

This immersive experience takes place in different areas of London, but will only involve catching the tube once between the afternoon and evening sessions. All locations are within Zone 1

For those travelling to London there are a number of hotels close to the Brick Lane area. The nearest tube stations for Brick Lane are Aldgate and Aldgate East, both 2 - 3 minutes away.

Please bring funds for any food you wish to purchase.

Although this is a full day the length of walking is not significant with plenty of time for breaks if you wish.

Although Adrian does not live in London he spends many hours here and this experience captures much of what touches him and the experience and knowledge he has achieved.
