About the experience

Experience Duration : 2 hrs 30 mins
Experience Summary:

Discovering artistic past and present of Spitalfields.

Detailed description:

What is the first thing that comes up to your mind when you think about Spitalfields? Jack the Ripper? If so, join us for the Spitalfields Walk to discover its bright side!

I will show you the vibrant area which history is rooted in the creativity of Huguenot immigrants.

We will start at the Diptyque boutique and talk about the connection between fabrics and fragrances. We will walk in the 17th century streets, strolled by William Shakespeare, and discover gems like Dennis Severs' House.

I will tell you the story of the area, starting with an ancient Roman princess buried under Spitalfields Market, and finishing with fashionable artists like Tracey Emin and Gilbert & George.

If you are an admirer of William Morris, you might be surprised to discover that his predecessor, silk designer Anna Maria Garthwaite, lived in Spitalfields one century before him.

We will finish our walk in a cozy lane at Angela Flanders perfume shop, the first indie perfumer who started her business in 1982, and discover her classic and trendy perfumes and candles.
