Experience Summary:

This alternative, workshop-based afternoon tea, is the the perfect way to do something special with family, friends, or if alone; to meet new people in Cambridge. Master British afternoon tea etiquette and create a traditional menu, including a range of quintessential finger sandwiches, cakes, pastries & scones. Indulge in your work with well earned bubbles & an assortment of exquisite teas!

Detailed description:

‘Afternoon Tea’ was initially developed as a private event for the elite ladies of British society. When Queen Victoria engaged in the ritual it became a formal occasion on a larger scale. Today in Britain it is usually enjoyed as an occasional indulgence, celebrating special events, or as a birthday, engagement or baby shower party idea.

For me…its an everyday affair! I invite you to join me whatever your occasion, to learn about quintessential afternoon tea etiquette and and of course making the perfect menu to match. The workshop includes the making and presentation of traditional:

  • Victoria Sponge cake, chocolate pastries and biscuits.
  • Sweet and savoury scones (a variety of traditional and seasonal).
  • Homemade mixed berry jam.
  • Dainty finger sandwiches (including. coronation chicken, egg & cress, cucumber.
  • Brewing the perfect pot of tea.

About the host

Hi, I’m your Cambridgeshire local - host Sophie. I have a training and development background in the corporate food and beverage industry and have been cooking and baking since discovering the joy of it many, many moons ago in my early teens. I am still to this day besotted with it.

I opened my own self-run boutique kitchen school and cafe in Cambridge in 2015. I now provide and teach multiple courses, with just one being the traditions of British afternoon tea. But, this has proved by far the most widely popular: amongst natives as well as tourists looking to experience this famous slice of British culture. With Cambridgeshire itself having such rich British culture running through its veins, its the perfect place to do it!

My focus is to provide an intimate learning experience that is fun-filled, friendly and inviting to all ages and personalities. I love nothing more than the joy I get from seeing people excited about spending time together in the kitchen.
