Detailed description:Learn the backbone of what makes a house or techno mix transition go from good to a dance floor favourite. This workshop is a hands-on introduction to the basic skills you’ll need to start shaping your own expertise and style.
You will be introduced to the equipment that every DJ needs to hone their skills from synthesisers to mixers, and the techniques that help you maintain your equipment. You’ll get to grips with the logistics of the turntables and switches, focussing on tempo, equalizers, beat-matching, crossfading and pitch sliding.
The workshop takes an interactive, hands-on decks approach, so you ‘ll really put theory into practice. You can expect to build DJ’ing confidence and free-styling skills from the get-go! Workshops are recorded and shared with guests, allowing you to refer back and improve your new skills with further practice.
Hey Frankie here! I’m a house and techno DJ as well as show promoter here in Detroit. Ive also spent time over the past five years on the festival circuit across the US and internationally.
My love for DJ’ing started as a teenager. I spent a lot of time to begin with by picking up tips and tricks from YouTube and online music forums. But nothing beat the time I spent with my uncle; one of Detroit’s most notorious underground club scene DJ’s in the 80’s.
As you probably know, nightlife and the live music scene were some of the most heavily affected industries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like so many creatives, my livelihood was turned completely upside down. Having to adapt so I could carry on doing what I love, is how these lessons came about - and now I can’t imagine not continuing to host them …even as the nightlife industry and festival circuit starts reopening in 2021!
So, if you're in (or planning to visit) Detroit, want to improve your mixing skills or are even just keen to try out something new, fun and interactive - I’m your guy!
