Detailed description:Spend a morning playing a game of India’s favourite sport with one of Mumbai’s neighbourhood cricket teams. The ‘gentleman’s game’, as it is also known, is almost another religion in India and one aspect of Indian life that unites the whole country. When the Indian team is playing, the entire country stops to watch. Every kid in India grows up playing cricket in alleyways, parking lots - even sometimes in their bedrooms!
This is your chance to join a group of locals in a friendly match. See for yourself the passion and pride we experience when playing and watching the sport. You’ll be able to chat with us all to get a glimpse into our lives and our obsession with the game. The match itself suits experienced cricketers as well as complete beginners. So whatever your level, you can be sure of a challenging, but more importantly fun time!
Hi, my name is Kabir and I was born and raised in Mumbai. In my late teens, I was a semi-professional cricket player, working hard to turn full-pro. But, just as life seemed to be getting sorted for me, after injuring my wrist, I had to put my dreams of playing for the national team to one side.
It took me a few years to recover physically before I could properly pick up a bat again, as well as recover emotionally - having to accept this change in direction for me. After some time working and travelling in Europe, I returned to India, with the realisation that I had to change my perspective and channel my passion for the game productively, even if different to how I always imagined.
I now feel accomplished & happy, working as a sports teacher in a high school in North Mumbai. Alongside my work teaching, for the past two years I’ve hosted a mix of lessons and neighbourhood games for tourists visiting Mumbai from around the world.
My aim is to introduce people from all cultural backgrounds to my nation’s sport in the most authentic way I know how. It keeps me reminded how captivating the game can be for not only just us Indian nationals. Our love for the game is simply contagious!
